Pedestrian dies in accident on I-80 near Colfax

November 23, 2005 By admin

A pedestrian died along Interstate 80 east of Colfax today in a hit-and-run accident. Jasper County Sheriff Mike Balmer says the man was apparently hit shortly after two A.M. The Sheriff’s Department got a call about a man trying to flag down cars on the west side of the interstate at 2:11 A.M. A deputy arrived seven minutes later and found the man’s body. Balmer says they know the man’s identity, but can’t release the identity until relatives are notified. Balmer says they’ve also located the primary vehicle involved, although the man may’ve been hit by other cars as well. The primary vehicle is a semi found at the Waukee rest area several miles away. The semi driver has been taken in for questioning. His name has also not been released.
