Name released of man who led police on chase

November 29, 2005 By admin

We now know the name of the man authorities spent over an hour looking for in Atlantic, Monday. According to Cass County Sheriff Bill Sage, an Omaha man, 25-year old Kenneth Haukaas, has been charged with second-degree theft for allegedly stealing gasoline from a convenience store/gas station in Shelby County.

Haukaas faces numerous charges as well, in connection with a subsequent motor vehicle pursuit and foot chase in Atlantic. The incident began with the theft on an S-U-V from Omaha, and escalated following a gas drive-off in Shelby, at around 2:20 Monday afternoon.

It finally ended when authorities in Atlantic received a citizen’s tip, and were able to take Haukaas into custody without incident at a coffee shop, a little over an hour later. Haukaas is currently being held in the Cass County jail. Sage says since the vehicle was reported stolen out of Omaha, it will be up to officials there to file any additional charges.
