Man charged with assaulting Avoca police officer

December 1, 2005 By admin

Western Iowa authorities have arrested a suspect for allegedly assaulting an Avoca police officer on Sunday night. The suspect is identified as 22-year-old Scott Yonkie of Avoca. Yonkie is charged with willful injury and assault on a peace officer.

Avoca Police Officer Chad Dennler had responded to a call about a suspicious person near the A-H-S-T Elementary School in Avoca Sunday night. A foot chase with the suspect ensued, and during the chase, the suspect allegedly struck Dennler in the head.

Dennler was released from the hospital Monday. Yonkie was arrested last night. A press release from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says Officer Dennler has positively identified Yonkie as the person who assaulted him.
