There’s another delay in Whirlpool’s bid to acquire Newton-based Maytag. Maytag and Whirlpool announced this (Thursday) morning that Whirlpool’s proposed buy-out of Maytag will not occur before February 27th. The antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice asked for the delay. Justice Department officials are reviewing of the merger, which would create the world’s largest appliance manufacturer, and could ask for another delay, according to Maytag and Whirlpool officials. Maytag shareholders are scheduled to vote on the deal December 22nd, but Whirlpool’s acquisition also needs the approval of those federal regulators.
