Aluminum becomes target of thieves

December 15, 2005 By admin

Around the holidays, it’s common to hear about people stealing clothes, electronics, or DVDs – but what about several hundred pounds of aluminum? Brian Miller, of B-and-B Machine in Muscatine, says 600 pounds of cast aluminum is missing from the eastern Iowa business.

What’s the value? It’s worth between eight and nine-thousand dollars. Miller says the material had been specially cut and was sitting in boxes at the machine shop. He says the lightweight, silver-colored metal could equal some cash for the alleged thief. For scrap, it may only bring 600 or 700 dollars. Miller thinks whoever took the cast aluminum parts could melt the material down before taking it to the scrap yard. The theft was reported December 5th but so far, the missing metal hasn’t re-appeared in any form.
