An eastern Iowa mother and daughter are sentenced to prison for mailing threatening letters to judges and a lawyer. Sixty-eight-year-old Marlys Floyd of Cedar Rapids and 43-year-old Rebecca Pippert of Keystone were sentenced Monday in district court in Cedar Rapids.

They were found guilty by a federal jury in June on all four counts of mailing threatening communications. Floyd and Pippert are accused of mailing threats to Iowa district court judges in Cedar Rapids, and a Cedar Rapids attorney in March.

The mailings contained a copy of a newspaper article captioned “man who killed himself in van claimed he shot judge’s family,” which was about the killings of the mother and father of a Chicago Federal Court judge. There was also a handwritten note stating “be aware, be fair.” Floyd was sentenced to 33 months in prison and Pippert received a 36-month term. Pippert’s sentence was enhanced after the judge discovered she’d perjured herself during the trial.
