Search continues for Altoona fatal hit-and-run driver

December 28, 2005 By admin

Police in the northeast Des Moines suburb of Altoona are still looking for the driver in a hit-and-run that left a local woman dead. Police Chief John Gray says 46-year-old Annamarie Rittman was struck in the parking lot of the Altoona Lowe’s store around six A.M. Tuesday as she came to work. Gray says they need more information.

He says they’ve had some calls and are running down some leads, but says they need the public’s help to find out who was behind the wheel. Gray says they believe they know the type vehicle that was involved. Gray says they’re trying to find the driver or owner of a red, 2004 or newer, Ford 150 crewcab pickup truck. Gray says they’re trying to get more information on the truck from security cameras. He says they have video from several of the stores in the area of Lowe’s and they hope in the next day or two to enhance the video and get a license number.

There’s often damage left over on a vehicle after an accident, but Gray says that may or may not be the case with this truck. Gray says they’re not sure as the video they have that’s clearer of the vehicle was before the woman was struck, so he says they’re not sure if there is damage. Gray says Rittman was alive when rescue crews arrived — but she died a short time later.
