An early-morning crash in central Iowa has killed one person. Polk County sheriff’s spokesman Bill Vaughn describes what happened. The call came about 1:40 A.M. of a motor-vehicle fatality at Highway 415 and Northwest 66th avenue in a collision of a tractor-trailer rig and a Dodge pickup. Vaughn says one of the people in the pickup died. He says deputies reported the pickup was headed west and at the intersection it hit the semi broadside. A passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was identified as 22-year-old Emery Rector of Des Moines.

He says the pickup went under the trailer of the big rig and was stuck there. Vaughn says the driver of the pickup is in stable condition at a Des Moines hospital. The driver of the semi and a passenger were unharmed. The pickup driver’s identified as Jared Wanamaker of Johnston.
