The daughter of a central Iowa police chief is in jail, charged with shooting a man on Sunday night in Lambs Grove, a small town just outside of Newton. Bond has been set at $100,000 for the young Colo woman, who’s been charged with attempted murder. Eighteen-year-old Rachel Marie Huggins is accused of shooting Peter Sciarotta in the chest on his front door step. The victim is about 50 years old and the Jasper County Sheriff says Sciarotta’s (skuh-RAW-tuh) injuries aren’t life-threatening, although he’s listed in serious condition at a Des Moines hospital. The sheriff says Huggins and the victim knew one another. The shooting happened at about eight o’clock Sunday night. Huggins is the daughter of the Colfax Police Chief John Huggins. She is in the Jasper County Jail charged with attempted murder, willful injury and going armed with intent. Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
