Iowa opens Big Ten with Wisconsin

January 5, 2006 By admin

The Big Ten basketball race is expected to be tougher than it has in several years and the Iowa Hawkeyes open on the road tonight at 24th ranked Wisconsin. This series has been all Wisconsin in recent years. The Badgers have won the last six meetings.
Iowa coach Steve Alford says while the Badgers have several new faces in the lineup this year they have experience in the program.

Alford says they’ve had success with redshirting and with kids waiting their turn. He says that’s easier when you’re winning championships. Alford says Wisconsin’s swing offense is difficult to defend as he says they have good people movement and good ball movement. Alford says Wisconsin doesn’t take bad shots and the guard well, so they have a good system on both ends of the floor.
Iowa is 11-3. Wisconsin is 10-2 after a loss to Pitt on New Years Eve.
