Johnny Mathies plays tune Drake doesn’t want to hear

January 9, 2006 By admin

Drake fell behind early and never recovered as the Bulldogs fell at Creighton 82-69 Sunday in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Bulldogs had no answer for Creighton’s Johnny Mathies, who had 22 of his career high 32-points in the opening half.

Drake coach Tom Davis on his postgame show on K-R-N-T in Des Moines Mathies gave the Drake guards a lesson as he says they didn’t have an answer for him. Davis says Mathies was the M-V-P of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last year, so he’s done this before and Davis says this time he gave Drake a “thumping”

The Bulldogs fell behind by 28-points but fought back with a 16-0 run. Davis says that’s a good attitude to build on, that they got down and fought back
Drake is 2-3 in the Valley, 9-7 overall.
