Perhaps no college student travels farther for a part-time job than Rob Jaskula. The University of Iowa sports journalism major is the play-by-play broadcaster for the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League. He says he looks forward to the games in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo as they’re the shortest commutes.

Jaskula says he was planning to work for another team closer to Iowa City this winter. He says he was going to be an intern with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders, but found out the Chicago team needed someone to do the radio.

Halfway through the season, Jaskula says the commute doesn’t bother him. He says he’s been able to avoid snow for the most part and he’s getting used to the towns in western Illinois and eastern Iowa.
