A suspicious death investigation is underway in Davenport after the discovery of a body Monday night near a west-side grocery store. Davenport Police Sergeant Bruce McKee says a 49-year-old man was found dead in the cargo section of a van parked at the Hy-Vee store. The man has been identified as Richard Joseph Hoffman, who has no known permanent address.

McKee says it’s still not known how Hoffman man died or how long the body had been in the parking lot. He says investigators are considering the death suspicious although there was no sign of foul play. An autopsy has been ordered to determine what happened to Hoffman. Hoffman was a self-employed painter/contractor.
