Closing of Canadian Deere plant Dubuque’s gain

January 27, 2006 By admin

Quad Cities-based Deere and Company is expanding two of its eastern Iowa plants, while shutting down a factory to the north. John Deere Company officials announced they were closing an Ontario, Canada, plant that produces forestry products and moving the line to the Dubuque and Davenport plants. Deere Dubuque Works will add one-hundred jobs. The Dubuque plant focuses on construction and forestry products.

This is the second line to move to Dubuque in less than five years. Officials cited efficiency reasons for the Canadian plant closing. The decision to move the line back to eastern Iowa was made after an internal study showed that the move would allow Deere to expand its line of forestry products.
