Being told you cannot accomplish something is one of the biggest motivators in sports and that may be big part of the success of the Iowa Wesleyan womens’ basketball team. The Tigers have sole possession of the lead in the Midwest Classic Conference after Wednesday night’s overtime win at St. Ambrose. In his second season as coach Steve Williamson has led the Tigers to a 6-1 conference record and 15-7 overall mark.

A year ago Iowa Wesleyan finished 10-22. He says they’re proving the people wrong that said you couldn’t win at Iowa Wesleyan. Williamson played at Iowa Wesleyan and feels that experience has helped him as a coach. He says it’s a unique situation to recruit people to the school and he says he knows what the college has to offer and he says that helps him attract kids.

Williams says experience has been a plus. The Tigers had three starters back from last year’s squad. Iowa Wesleyan returns to action at home Saturday afternoon against William Penn.
