Child dies in Clinton fire

January 30, 2006 By admin

A child was killed in a weekend fire in the eastern Iowa town of Clinton. Firefighters were called early Sunday morning to an apartment complex and found flames and smoke coming from one of the second floor units. Crews were told someone was trapped on the second floor and a search was launched. The child’s body was found. The victim’s name, gender and age have not been released.

No other injuries are reported. The building took an estimated 100-thousand dollars damage with 25-thousand dollars damage to the contents. The apartment complex is owned by Cecil Engles of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and the building was reportedly not insured. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
