Iowa State junior guard Curtis Stinson has been named the Big-12 Conference player of the week. Stinson became just the third Cyclone to ever record a triple-double when he poured in 24-points, had 10 rebounds and added 10 assists in Sunday’s 96-79 win over Colorado.

Iowa State coach Wayne Morgan says in his opinion there’s noone in the conference playing as well as Stinson right now. The Cyclones are 4-4 in conference play and 14-7 overall. They return to action Wednesday night at Kansas State. Morgan says every game they play is “huge.”

This is perceived to be a down year for the Big-12 Conference which has been highly rated the past few years but you will have a hard time convincing the league coaches. Morgan says the depth of teams in the conference makes it tough. He says he thinks the league is very good, and he says three or four years ago he wouldn’t hesitate to say it’s the best league in the country. Morgan says though he’s not saying the league is off.

Morgan says Big-12 teams may do surprisingly well in the NCAA Tournament. He says he thinks they’ll get a minimum of four teams in the tourney and maybe five. Morgan says if they get decent seeds, they’ll win some games.
