A group of college students are participating in a competition today that’s modeled after the “Apprentice” reality TV show. Andy Schryver of Waldorf College in Forest City is one of the students selected from across the state to take part. Schryver says they have one goal — they’re trying to come up with a way to attract graduates from Iowa colleges and other areas of the country to come to Iowa to work.

Schryver says they got the assignment this morning and will work on it for six hours before making their presentation. He says there are 12 students involved that’re split into 12 teams. Schryver says they’re focusing on the 18 to 30 year-old age range.

Four of the students will be given a job opportunity with a Des Moines business, so Schryver says there’s incentive to do well. He says there’s a little big of pressure, but he says you’re working as a team, so you can work with teammembers to come up with a quality project. The program was created by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, and economic development group, and they say it will be an annual event.
