A van, packed with people, crashed on Interstate 80 in western Iowa early today. Cass County Sheriff’s officials say a van carrying 19 Hispanic individuals was headed eastbound on the interstate at around one o’clock this morning, when it went out of control and rolled onto its side, coming to rest in the westbound lanes of traffic. The accident happened just east of the Highway 71 interchange.

Following the crash, the occupants of the van took off running, but were rounded up with help from volunteers with the Atlantic Fire Department and Sheriff’s Deputies. Early indications were that all of the van’s occupants had been accounted for, but authorities soon discovered two more individuals from the van were missing, and a second search was organized.

The missing persons were located just before seven-a.m. No injuries were reported. Sheriff’s officials say all of the vans’ occupants are being held in Cass County awaiting interviews with officials from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
