Electrolux to cut 700 jobs in Webster City

February 14, 2006 By admin

Officials of Electrolux announced today (Tuesday) plans to revise North American operations, including building a new plant in Mexico. The move will mean some 700 jobs will be lost at the plant in Webster City, though the factory will continue to make other washers, dryers and “laundry centers.”

The company, which has had a plant in Webster City for 70 years, says front-load washers are a high-growth segment of the North American market and the Iowa factory doesn’t have capacity to meet its anticipated demand. The new factory in Juarez, Mexico, will employ about 800 people and start production late next year.
