I-S-U coach says they need wins to get in NCAA

February 15, 2006 By admin

The Iowa State Cyclones are at home tonight against Nebraska in the Big-12. The Cyclones are 4-6 in conference play and with six games remaining in the regular season coach Wayne Morgan says his team needs an impressive finish to get back to the NCAA Tournament. He says they have to win five of the last regular season games or four conference tournament games to get into the NCAA tourney.

The stretch run begins tonight against a Nebraska team the Cyclones beat in Lincoln. Morgan says they’re in the frame mind to do it, it’s just whether they have the physical ability to get it done.

The Huskers are 5-5 in conference play and coach Barry Collier says they need to do a better job against the Cyclone guard tandem of Curtis Stinson and Will Blalock. He says they need to defend well as a team, not so much being able to guard them one on one.

Collier says the Huskers also need to do a better job on the boards than they did in the first matchup. He says the Cyclones rebounding allowed them to beat his team in another area in a game where they were looking for an advantage. I-S-U is 14-9 overall. Nebraska is 15-8.
