Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford says he will give the same answer no matter how many times or in different ways the question is asked. Alford was asked on today’s Big Ten teleconference about his name being connected to the opening at Indiana. The speculation picked up after Hoosier coach Mike Davis resigned last week. Alford says all his efforts, passion and enthusiasm are with the basketball team. He says the team has had a heck of a year and done some things that haven’t been done in the history of the school.

Alford says his entire focus is trying to make the team even better and trying to make it an even more special season. That is the way he is answering any question about Indiana and says he will continue to do so. Alford says the one thing he’s learned as a player and coach is that he has to answer a question seven to 70 times for “it to really sink in for some.”

The Hawkeyes fell into a first place tie in the Big Ten after losing at Minnesota on Saturday. They return to action Saturday at Illinois and Alford will use this week to work on defense.

Alford says a lot of the loss has to do with Minnesota executing its offense, but Alford says he wasn’t pleased with the way they guarded. He says they work on all areas of defense this week in practice.
