Names released in ice fishing accident

February 22, 2006 By admin

Authorities have released the names of the three men involved in a fatal ice-fishing accident yesterday in western Iowa. The three men were ice-fishing at Prairie Rose State Park near Harlan yesterday afternoon when the ice gave way.

D-N-R rangers were able to pull two of the men from the water quickly, but the third man remained underwater for nearly 30 minutes before he could be rescued. He later died at the Harlan hospital. He’s identified as 69-year-old William Thomas of Council Bluffs. The two survivors are identified as 59-year-old Larry Fencl and 94-year-old Jess Fencl, also of Council Bluffs.
