February 23, 2006 By admin

A teen from Mapleton in Western Iowa who was injured in a shooting incident last night has died. Seventeen-year-old Alex Parker was flown to Mercy Hospital after police say he was shot in the back of the head by another youth, who was trying to take the gun out of a vehicle when it accidentally discharged. Both teens were part of a group that had returned to Mapleton early last (Wednesday) evening after target-shooting practice near Anthon. Parker died at the hospital this (Thursday) morning. The incident’s being considered an accident and no charges have been filed. Counselors will be on hand at Maple Valley – Otho High School to help students deal with the tragedy.
