Police chase leads to crash near Wilton

February 27, 2006 By admin

The Highway Patrol says speeds in a chase on Interstate 80 Saturday morning exceeded 100-miles an hour before troopers lost the suspect near Wilton. The vehicle exited at the Wilton rest area, jumped the sidewalk and crashed into a tree at the bottom of a ravine. The suspect fled on foot into a wooded area. It was determined the vehicle had been stolen from Michigan on Saturday morning.

Just before 1:30 on Sunday morning, an attendant at the Wilton rest area notified the State Patrol that a person matching the suspect’s description was at the rest area. Authorities responded and took 21-year-old Yanik Audian of Des Moines into custody. He faces a host of charges, including: possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding and second-degree theft.
