Blouin expected to name runningmate

February 28, 2006 By admin

Sources say Democrat gubernatorial candidate Michael Blouin will ask a Des Moines doctor to be his running mate. Andy (Andrea) McGuire is a former cancer researcher who now works at American Republic Insurance. She grew up in Waterloo which is where the Blouin campaign has scheduled a Thursday news conference to make what it says is a major announcement.

McGuire would be a pick similar to Governor Vilsack’s decision to name Sally Pederson as his Lieutenant Governor. McGuire is described by Senator Mike Gronstal as a “smart, funny and personable woman” with great connections in Des Moines who could bring in more cash for the Blouin campaign. McGuire has seven children and is the sister-in-law of Sheila McGuire, former Iowa Democratic Party chairwoman.
