Senator Harkin says U-S troops caught in Iraqi civil war

March 2, 2006 By admin

U.S. Senator Tom Harkin says the situation in Iraq is awful and it’s getting worse, as he says American troops are now caught in the middle of a civil war. Harkin says congressional Democrats are working on a plan to promote debate on what the U.S. is doing in Iraq and how long the President Bush wants troops to stay.

Harkin says “I think our troops ought to be redeployed as soon as possible. It’s getting very, very tenuous over there. Our military is going to be caught in a civil war crossfire and that is not any position that we ought to be in.” Harkin, a Democrat, says there should be votes in Congress on how soon before the U.S. should pull out of Iraq.

Harkin says he was told by experts before the war began that it was a civil war in Iraq and now U.S. troops are stuck in the middle of it. He says there hasn’t been enough publicity about civilian casualties who are caught in the middle of the crossfire. Harkin says the innocent women and children killed in Iraq should weigh heavily on our conscience.
