The second day of the girl’s state basketball tournament opened with a buzzer beater. Kelsey Bolte of Battle Creek-Ida Grove sank a 15 foot baseline jumper as they downed Wapsie Valley 59-57. Bolte says the final play did not work the way it was drawn up, as she says it was supposed to be a double screen back to the top, but she says that didn’t work and she just grabbed it and shot it.

Wapsie Valley coach Rod Sickles says it was a heartbreaking end to what was a great effort from his team. He says it hurts everybody right now, but he says everyone will look back on this as one of the best memories of their lives. Sickles says they weren’t very good early, but got better and proved they belonged at the tournament.

Battle Creek-Ida Grove takes a 26-1 record into the 2A semifinals. Wapsie Valley ends the season with a record of 19-7.
