The Iowa Hawkeyes outscored Ohio State 15-3 to close the game in a 67-60 victory in the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament. The Hawkeyes snapped The Buckeyes seven game win streak and picked up their second conference tournament title.

Iowa coach Steve Alford says he couldn’t be happier with his team. Alford says they struggled offensively early and played outstanding defense down the stretch. Alford says the defense has been their trademark.

Senior guard Jeff Horner had only one basket in the opening half but he took over after intermission and finished with 16 points and ten assists. Alford says they were nervous after Horner heard something pop in his ribs as he warmed up. But Horner came on in the second half and was named the M-V-P of the tournament.

The Hawkeyes earned the third seeds in the Atlanta regional in the NCAA Tournament and play Northwestern State on Friday in the opening round in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Alford says it’s a great win for the program and they look forward to seeing what the next tournament brings.
