New charges filed against Sumner man

New charges have been filed against a Sumner man who is being held in connection with the murder of his father. Twenty-year-old Nathanial McKinney is now being charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft in connection with an incident in Summer.

McKinney was being held as a material witness in the murder of his father, 52-year-old Frank McKinney. Frank McKinney was found dead on January 18th in his home in Sumner. Nathanial has been held in the Bremer county jail for the past 54 days as a material witness in the case. The new charges are not related to the murder of McKinney’s father.
