Five charged in fire at state’s oldest church

March 16, 2006 By admin

Authorities in southeast Iowa have corralled a group of young suspects they say set last week’s fire that gutted the state’s oldest church. Five Ottumwa teenagers are charged with first-degree arson in the blaze that destroyed the historic 150-year-old Mars Hill Church near Ottumwa.

The suspects are: 15-year-olds Dawn Wilson and Angel Long, 16-year-old Stephanie Ybarra, 18-year-old Joshua Johnson and 19-year-old Aidan Miller. Three of the teens surrendered and the other two were taken into custody with no resistance.
