Elderly couple found dead in Gruver

March 21, 2006 By admin

The slain bodies of an elderly married couple were found in their home Monday in the northwest Iowa town of Gruver. Emmet County authorities responded to the home after getting a 9-1-1 call. The sheriff says Marvin and Laura Cox, both 74, had been shot to death with a 22-caliber rifle.

Nearby residents were evacuated. The man’s body was found on the kitchen floor while the woman’s body was in a living room chair, in what appears to be a murder-suicide. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called to assist in probing the double-shooting.
