UNI basketball coach to take job at ISU

March 21, 2006 By admin

Iowa State University is expected to announce tonight that the school is hiring an in-state replacement for fired mens’ basketball coach Wayne Morgan.

Cyclone athletic director Jamie Pollard is expected to name University of Northern Iowa coach Greg McDermott as the new I-S-U coach. McDermott has taken U-N-I to unprecedented success, including the schools first ever top 25 ranking this season, and three straight appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Morgan was fired Friday after his team went on a late season skid and failed to make either the NCAA or NIT postseason tournament.
