Alford issues statement on job speculation

March 22, 2006 By admin

University of Iowa’s men’s basketball Coach Steve Alford issued a statement today says he is looking forward to continued success with the Hawkeye program and has scheduled no interviews for vacant coaching positions. The statement comes after a published report that Alford would interview at the University of Missouri.

“As in the past, search committees and interested officials from other programs with openings for a head basketball coach have initiated contact,” said Alford. “I’m flattered with the interest and the recognition of the outstanding season we had this year,” added Alford. Alford does not say in his statement if he plans to conduct any interviews. It has been widely speculated that Alford is a candidate at his alma-mater Indiana.
