Drake begins spring ball Wednesday

March 28, 2006 By admin

The Drake football team opens Spring drills on Wednesday. Coach Rob Ash has a lot of experience returning from last year’s team that finished 6-4 and the Bulldogs are looking forward to returning home in the fall. Renovations on Drake Stadium are almost complete but the Bulldogs will not be able to practice on the new surface until August.

Ash feels good about their potential for next season, although he says they have some major questions, like quarterback. The defensive line lost all four starters to graduation, and they also need a kicker and punter.

Ash says a crowded field is looking to replace Connor Jostes at quarterback. A year ago at this time Ash was concerned about a young offensive line but that group shined in 2005. He says that was the most pleasant surprise of last year.

The Bulldogs will open the 2006 season at home August 31st against U-N-I.
