Some Iowa Marines are coming home from Iraq. For the past six months, the 14th Marine Regiment has been providing security at U.S. military camps and detention centers for Iraqi prisoners. The 110-member unit — part of “C” Battery, First Battalion — is based in Waterloo, but the soldiers are from across Iowa. They’ve been at five locations in Iraq’s dangerous Al Anbar province since October.

The Iowa Marines are expected to arrive at California’s March Air Force Base early next week. The unit is tentatively scheduled to be in Waterloo for a homecoming celebration on April 12th.
