Hawkeye wrestling coach fired

March 30, 2006 By admin

Iowa wrestling coach Jim Zalesky has been fired after nine years at the helm. The three time NCAA champion for the Hawkeyes took over for the legendary Dan Gable and the Hawks won the national championship his first three years on the job.

But the program has slipped in recent years and Iowa finished fourth at this season’s national tournament after a sixth place finish at the Big Ten meet.

During the regular season, the Hawks posted a dual meet record of 11-7, including a 4-4 mark in the Big Ten. Zalesky’s overall dual meet record is 127-34.
