A state audit has found a former Boone school district employee likely embezzled over two-hundred thousand dollars. The State Auditor’s report shows Mickey Heath, the former business manager of the Boone Community School District, wrote 140-thousand dollars worth of checks to himself. Heath cashed another 40-thousand dollars worth of checks and the paper trail indicates the cash wound up in his pocket.

The audit reviewed records dating back to July 1st, 2001. Heath was hired in 1997. He was fired October 28th of last year for “improper use of computer equipment.” When his supervisors were sorting through his office, they found a folder filled with questionable check stubbs. The audit has been turned over to prosecutors.
