Family left homeless after fire

April 4, 2006 By admin

A southwest Iowa family of four is homeless after a house fire. Corning Fire Chief Donnie Willett says a blaze started in the kitchen of the home at around 11-a.m. Monday. Jay Russell and his two children were home at the time while his wife Candace was at work. The father and kids were sent to the Corning hospital, where the children were treated and released, but Jay Russell was held six hours for observation, after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Willett says the cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was completely consumed by the flames, and the family lost everything they owned. A local chapter of the American Red Cross is helping to find them clothing and shelter.
