A group of Storm Lake high school students marched this (Friday) morning to protest changes being considered in federal immigration policy. About one hundred students, mostly Latinos, marched from the Storm Lake High School to the offices of Congressman Steve King in downtown Storm Lake.

One of the organizers of the march, Adriana Perez, explains the purpose of their demonstration. She says they don’t think its right “that immigrants are going to be know as criminals.” Perez says the immigrants just want to work hard for their money to support their families.

Perez was pleased with the response from students for today’s (Friday) march, and said there are some things the students can continue doing to protest U.S. policy on immigration. She says they plan to wear their shirts in protest every Friday.

King has long been critical of current immigration policy, and recently said legalizing the illegal workers will overpower the system used to process them. King says he wants to see enforcement of immigration law before the illegal workers are legalized, and has called for a two-thousand mile fence at the border.
