Drake to take part of relays downtown

April 10, 2006 By admin

Drake University officials will be taking the Drake Relays downtown beginning this month. Relays director Brian Brown says a high jump exhibition will be held at Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines on April 27th. Brown says they’ll be elite Olympic women high jumpers who’ll be jumping for some prize money.

Brown says its a good way to promote the Relays and start a new tradition. He says the plan is to bring something downtown every year, so next year they’ll have the mens’ high jumpers, the year after that the shot putters, and for the relays centennial year in 2009, they’ll have the Olympic pole vaulters jumping. The Drake Relays are April 27th through the 29th.
