Both drivers were killed. Also killed were: 71-year-old Jacqueline Baker and 63-year-old Nancy Batterson, both of Ottumwa.

One passenger in each car survived: 63-year-old Roger Batterson of Ottumwa and one-year-old Abigail Little, of Beacon. Both were airlifted to a Des Moines hospital for treatment.
