Man dies after his truck strikes Braille and Sight-Saving School

April 11, 2006 By admin

Authorities are trying to determine why a truck left an eastern Iowa highway and slammed into a school. Officials say the truck traveled several hundred feet onto the campus of the Iowa Braille and Sight-Saving School in Vinton after veering off U.S. Highway 218.

The vehicle ran over some bushes and crossed a parking lot, before slamming into a gymnasium wall. The accident occurred Monday morning while students were at the school. At the time of the crash, authorities say gym class was being held at a track nearby. Officials say the truck driver died in the crash. His name hasn’t been released.
