A Decorah man accused of assaulting to referees after a high school basketball game has been barred from attending games for six months. On February 24th 44-year-old Mark Kraayenbrink confronted two basketball officials over the officiating of a high school girls’ basketball game involving Decorah and Waukon. Kraayenbrink allegedly hit the two officials, identified as Justin Stockdale of Dike and John Conlon of Waterloo. They were not injured.

Kraayenbrink was charged with two counts of simple assault and was set to stand trial on April 6th in Winneshiek County District Court. However, and agreement has been reached to defer the prosecution if Kraayenbrink complies with its conditions.

Those conditions are that Kraayenbrink is not allowed to attend any Decorah High School athletic event until October 2nd, nor can he be in the immediate vicinity of those events. He must also submit written apologies to the referees and get a mental health evaluation.
