Marshalltown police identify hit-and-run victim

April 18, 2006 By admin

Police have identified the illegal immigrant who was killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday in Marshalltown, but authorities are still asking for the public’s help in solving the case. He’s been identified as Manuel Alvarez of Marshalltown. Authorities list age as “unknown.” Alvarez was hit and dragged by an unidentified driver at about 1:20 am Sunday morning. Authorities believe Alvarez was an illegal immigrant and witnesses to the crime could also be illegal immigrants. Marshalltown Police Chief Lon Walker says the immigration status of a witness to a crime is “immaterial” and will not be used against them if they come forward with information about the accident.
