Upper Iowa baseball coach Mark Danker feels his program will be ready when they join a new conference next season. After making the transition to division-two the Peacocks are playing their final season as an independent and will move to the Northern Sun Conference in 2007. Upper Iowa is 23-17overall after a Tuesday victory at Mount Mercy.

Danker says his team has played a demanding schedule this season and though it is a long shot, they could qualify for an NCAA regional. He says there’s an emphasis on playing teams in your region, and he says they’ve tried to do that.

Upper Iowa is putting up some big numbers on offense but Danker says the Peacocks have had more success as the pitching staff has improved. Danker says much of the credit for the strides the program has made should go to a senior class that has not been able to play for a conference championship. Upper Iowa returns to action this weekend with a three game series at Northwest Missouri State.
