Iowan named to federal Ag post

April 21, 2006 By admin

The U.S. Ag Secretary has tapped a long-time eastern Iowa farmer who’s been president of the National Pork Producers to lead the Farm Service Agency’s commodity operations and farm loan programs.

Fifty-six-year-old Glen Keppy’s title will be associate administrator for the Farm Service Agency. Keppy has farmed near Davenport for the past 34 years, but urban sprawl has been encroaching on his 80 acre farm, which sits just west of the Davenport airport and near an industrial complex in Mount Joy. He is a past president of the National Pork Producers and has served on the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s board of directors.

Keppy was also the Iowa chairman of a group formed in 2004 called “Farmers for Bush” which backed President Bush’s re-election.
