The state climatologist says the recent severe weather that’s caused such havoc in some corners of Iowa may continue for several more weeks. Harry Hillaker says the latest models reveal few changes ahead for the major weather patterns over the state and region.

Hillaker says the long-range forecast shows generally cooler and wetter than normal weather to the north of Iowa and generally warmer and drier than normal to the south, which has been the pattern lately. He says that means Iowa has an equal chance for both above- and below-normal temperatures and precipitation.

He says the pattern could be more favorable for severe weather for us as the contrasting air masses intersect over Iowa. Hillaker says the next two weeks should be a bit warmer and a little drier than normal.
