Body found in Emmet County field

April 25, 2006 By admin

A dead man’s been found a few miles from the Minnesota border and authorities in northern Iowa don’t know if it’s a hunting accident, a slaying or a suicide. A farmer doing field work made the gruesome discovery yesterday in a field east of Armstrong.

The Emmet County Sheriff says the partially-decomposed body of a man was found, lying on his back. A shotgun was found next to the body and the apparent cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The man is thought to be around 20 years old, wearing tennis shoes, jeans and a grey hooded sweatshirt.

The body has not been identified and its been taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy. Sheriff Larry Lamack says it’s unclear if it was a suicide or a murder.
