Governor Tom Vilsack has signed two bills into law that make some changes in the state’s home building industry. One of the bills signed into law directs the state building code commissioner to adopt more up-to-date energy conservation standards for single-family or two-family homes.

Another bill that the governor made law changes state regulation of the manufactured home and mobile home industries. First, the retailers who sell mobile homes and manufactured homes will have to pay a yearly one-hundred dollar licensing fee. That’s a 65-dollar increase.

And businesses which -make- mobile homes or manufactured homes will have to pay the one-hundred-dollar annual fee, too. That’s a three-fold increase in their annual state license fee. The industry will now be regulated by the state building code commissioner. The Iowa Department of Transportation has been overseeing the folks who sell mobile homes and manufactured homes in Iowa.
